Details:
Free Practice Set for Parabola . This practice set contains questions that will cover most important topic of JEE Mains /Advance of this chapter. Syllabus of this chapter: Sections of cones, equations of conic sections (parabola, ellipse and hyperbola) in standard forms, condition for y = mx + c to be a tangent and point (s) of tangency. Concepts & Formulae : A parabola is the locus of a point, whose distance from a fixed point (focus) is equal to perpendicular distance from a fixed straight line (directix). For parabola y2 = 4ax (read y2 =y square) (i) Vertex is A(0, 0) (ii) focus is S(a, 0) (iii) Axis is y = 0 (iv) Directrix is x + a = 0 (v) Focal Distance : The distance of a point on the parabola from the focus (vi) Focal Chord : A chord of the parabola, which passes through the focus (vii) Double Ordinate : A chord of the parabola perpendicular to the axis of the symmetry (viii) Latus Rectum : A double ordinate passing through the focus or a focal chord perpendicular to the axis of parabola is called the Latus Rectum (L.R.) For y2 = 4ax, the ends of the latus rectum are L(a, 2a) and L’(a, –2a) and length of the latus rectum = 4a
